Acoustic doors are a necessity in environments where noise reduction and privacy is needed. Due to more stringent legislations, it has become a requirement to consider the effects of noise pollution in working and residential environments, as hearing can become affected by the repetition of relatively loud noises, and can affect a person’s physical and mental health. Pensher Skytech’s acoustic doors are rated to one of the highest standards and therefore can withstand significant volumes of noise.
Due to the high-performance criteria required from the acoustic doors, Pensher Skytech’s acoustic doors are of a robust and heavy duty steel design with a tighter tolerance to reduce very loud sound transmissions.
Our acoustic doors have been tested and can achieve a performance up to 50STC (50dB), which is one of the highest levels of acoustic performance.
In order to determine the level of which an acoustic door can minimise sound, the UK industry standard ensures that doors are subjected to continuous sound waves with a spectrum of frequencies. Acoustic door sets can adopt different characteristics and therefore the highest rating door will not necessarily be the most suitable for the frequency of sound for which it is needed.
Measurements of acoustic performance:
dBs Performance Description
22 Minimal Speech clearly audible
25 Average Normal speech understood
35 Good Loud speech audible but not intelligible
45 Very good Loud speech just detectable
50 Excellent Loud speech barely audible.
Pensher Skytech’s acoustic doors can adopt other performance measures including blast resistance, security, fire-resistance and ballistic resistance. High specification doors such as these usually have an acoustic performance due to their robust and heavy duty design, however the additional acoustic sealant stops sound penetrating around the door edge.
Glass vision panels can also be incorporated into the door system depending on the requirements and specifications.
Acoustic doors are ideal for any environment where noise pollution can be a problem to workers and residents. Areas that typically require high-specification acoustic doors are:
