John Hamilton
Managing Director

John is our Managing Director, responsible for the performance of the Pensher Skytech business.  He is also the Managing Director of the Renown Group, a multi-faceted group of manufacturing companies.

Our Managing Director, John, is responsible for the performance of the Pensher Skytech business. He is also the Managing Director of the Renown Group, a multi-faceted group of manufacturing companies operating in the oil and gas, defence and nuclear sectors. In addition to being responsible for the financial performance of the company he is also custodian of our ethos and professional standards.

He believes in promoting our values through the behaviour of all our employees, the quality of our products and our respect for the environment in which we live and operate.
To ensure Pensher Skytech and its employees attain these standards he has a proactive, hands-on approach to managing the business which includes meeting with customers and suppliers to better understand the expectations of our markets. He is involved in product innovation and contributes to product development and testing, market research and promoting the business and its products.

John has over thirty years of experience working in the oil and gas, automotive, material handling and industrial security sectors in various operational and general management roles. He has worked within the Renown Group for the last twelve years and has been the Managing Director of Pensher Skytech for five years.

Derek Quinn
Technical Manager

Derek is responsible for all technical matters with regard to the Pensher Skytech Products. He arranges testing, and certification, and co-ordinates all research and development matters.

Derek is responsible for designing and developing our high specification doors, windows and glazing systems to protect against physical threat. This threat can be ballistic, blast pressure, physical attack, or fire.

As custodian of the Pensher Skytech company ethos of safeguarding the welfare of individuals, his primary consideration is the integrity of our products, he ensures that the product is the most suitable for the application that it can be possibly be.

His knowledge and experience from working for over twenty years in the sector enables him to direct our product development, particularly in the fields of blast and fire protection. His desire to design new and innovative products to meet the increasing demands for security and risk management has developed collaborations with testing facilities including Exova Warrington, BRE Watford, Spadeadam and Baker Risk, USA.

His remit includes understanding how new developments in materials and manufacturing processes and technology can be applied to the design of the Pensher Skytech product range to enhance performance and provide value for money to our customers.

Derek has been involved in the design and development of blast, ballistic and fire resistant doors and glazing for more than ten years. Prior to that his experience was in steel security doors and steel glazed fire screens. This early exposure to steel protection products provided Derek with the desire to further develop his knowledge and understanding in asset protection.

He excels at providing solutions to making environments safer from the threat of explosions and from ballistic attack. He is experienced in testing for blast resistance, ballistic resistance, forced entry, fire, and severe weather performance.

John Richardson
Commercial Manager

John is responsible for carrying out any initial consultation with clients to establish their requirements. He has an overview of all operations, ensuring all projects run smoothly.

John is responsible for carrying out any initial consultation with clients to establish their requirements, working with our Technical Manager and external specialist consultants to present suitable technical solutions. John collates and submits commercial estimates, as well as creating mutual agreements of subcontract terms & conditions and construction programmes at the time of order placement.

John has an overview of all operations from initial order placement through our technical appraisal process, design, manufacture and installation all the way through to final sign off, to ensure all projects run smoothly, are completed on time and within budget and most importantly to the satisfaction of our clients.

With an extensive background in the construction industry spanning more than 20 years, John possesses a sound knowledge of standard and specialist glazing solutions and specialist door systems, providing bespoke protective solutions for blast and ballistics, fire protection, security, acoustics, and anti-ligature window solutions.

With experience in technical sales, estimating, contracts, design and manufacture, John has a broad knowledge of the delivery of specialist products from initial design/consultation stage all the way through to delivery.

Steven Simpson
Projects Manager

Steven is responsible for all live projects from the point of receiving a client’s purchase order to sign off  upon a successful completion. He ensures the project is delivered on time to agreed programme of works and within budget.

Steven is responsible for all live projects from the point of receiving a client’s purchase order to sign off and handing over the project to the client upon a successful completion, primarily he is responsible to ensure the project is delivered on time to agreed programme of works and within budget.

To ensure the above is met, Steven’s duties include: site surveys, producing architectural design drawings, and working with the client to progress the project to approval status, pre-site start meetings from where he will produce project specific method statements and risk assessments. Steven is the client’s main point of contact for all issues regarding design, programme and installation, and manages a qualified installation team, ensuring that exact standards are met at all times.

Steven has 18 years experience in the specialist window, door and curtain wall industry, 10 years in design as a project draughtsman and 8 years in project management, he has been involved in many sensitive projects including counter terror sites in London’s Parliament Estates, petrochemical sites around the UK and overseas, and also various school and hospital projects. Steven has gained experience working overseas managing petrochemical projects in Turkey and Denmark.

Jimmy Sinclair
Operations Manager

Jim is responsible for overseeing operations and coordinating engineering activities at Renown Engineering and covers the Group responsibility for welding engineering.

  

Jim is responsible for overseeing operations and coordinating engineering activities at Pensher Skytech and Renown Engineering, and covers the Group responsibility for welding engineering.

Jim has over 28 years’ experience general engineering, however, specialises in welding and fabrication. With the benefit of serving his time as a fabricator and working through the ranks up into quality management, he has a good all round knowledge of the industry and is able to apply his experience where necessary.

Mark Young
Quality Manager

Mark’s primary responsibly is to ensure all quality assurance and quality control requirements are being achieved throughout the Cramlington facility in line with our  ISO 9001-2008 approved QMS.

Mark’s primary responsibly is to ensure all quality assurance and quality control requirements are being achieved throughout the Cramlington facility in line with the ISO 9001-2008 approved QMS.

Mark also manages the Quality Control department delegating and prioritising the work load around the six members of the department to ensure the quality requirements, specifications & schedules are met on daily basis. His role also involves liaising with the various clients during the manufacture of the contracts.

He also oversees the collation of all quality documentation supplied to the client as stipulated in their purchase order. This can also include preparing and submitting Inspection Test Plans (ITP’s) for the client approval.

Mark has 27 years’ experience in engineering, having served an apprenticeship specialising in machining and fitting. This experience has become of great value in problem solving and suggestions for improvement to manufacturing techniques. He has also gained a number of inspection qualifications since joining the quality function within Renown Engineering which consist of:

All of the above qualifications have been invaluable to Mark’s role as Quality Manager within Renown.

Jack Starforth
Project Engineer

Jack is responsible for ensuring  production drawings and planning are carried out for the projects he is involved with. He uses SolidWorks to produce 3D models.

Jack is responsible for planning and production drawings at Pensher Skytech. He uses design software, SolidWorks, to produce 3D models, which he then uses to create workshop drawings, and production routings. His role is an important bridge between the customer and production, as he ensures all of the project requirements are met in the drawings, before passing them over to the engineering team to be manufactured.

Jack joined Renown Group as a graduate from Northumbria University where he attained a first in Mechanical Engineering. His first role was working on marine doors with Pensher Skytech’s sister company, Westmoor Engineering, where he gained valuable knowledge, using finite analysis to assist with design. Jack then moved to Pensher Skytech where he has been involved in several high-profile blast projects, including petrochemical blast projects in Algeria and Georgia, and counter-terror projects on Gatwick Airport and several military bases. His knowledge and design skills were also highly valuable in the development and design of Pensher Skytech’s new range of anti-ligature windows.

Mark Coulthard
Project Engineer

Mark is responsible for generating in-house production drawings and work instructions for manufacture.  He is also involved in the design and development of new and existing products.

Mark is responsible for generating in-house production drawings and work instructions for manufacture. He is also involved in the design and development of new products, as well as working on ways to improve existing products, and making them even more adaptable.

Mark originally worked at our Renown Oil & Gas office in Washington, where he was responsible for planning and scheduling of project timelines for clients within the oil and gas sector. He recently relocated to Pensher Skytech at the Cramlington office, to assist the team in the development of new products and streamline the manufacturing process.

In his short time with Pensher Skytech, Mark has been involved in the development of our new anti-ligature window, and fire windows.

Hannah Johnson
Marketing Officer

As Pensher Skytech’s Marketing Officer, Hannah is responsible for business development and raising the awareness and profile of the company across traditional and digital media.

 

As the Marketing Officer for Renown Group, Hannah is responsible for promoting the brand across traditional and digital media. Hannah manages all of our online platforms, including the websites and social media accounts, and is the producer of all content, such as press releases, newsletters and direct marketing materials. Following graduating university, Hannah joined us in April 2016 where she has significantly developed her marketing skills.

So far in her role, Hannah has been responsible for working with a web designer to update the Pensher Skytech website, making it more modern and ensuring that it reflects their new healthcare market. She has also helped with the launch of Pensher Skytech’s new product, the Skytech Lite anti-ligature window, as well as national exhibitions.

Jamie Gilroy
Coatings Specialist

Jamie is our Coatings Specialist who has a NACE Level 3 certification and has expert knowledge of corrosion, surface preparations, environmental conditions and chemical resistance.

Jamie is Renown Group’s Coatings Specialist where on a typical day he provides technical assistance on all projects and performs multiple destructive & non-destructive inspections on various coating systems applied to our products, either in-house or at sub-contractors. Jamie has been working in the coatings industry for over 5 years and has recently been certified to NACE Level 3 following an intense peer review examination. During his career, Jamie has worked in a range of industries, primarily in oil and gas, where he gained most of his experience whilst working on multiple new build oil and gas projects and an FPSO conversion project.

James is responsible for running the manufacturing workshop where he ensures the workforce meet the delivery schedules. He is a key liaison between the design and technical departments, and is always keen to offer his expert advice.

James began his career with Pensher Skytech as an apprentice, and has 22 years’ experience as a metalworker. He also has experience working offshore, where he gained valuable experience in the petrochemical industry, which has been beneficial to a number of developments in Pensher Skytech products. James has also spent time with Komatsu, a company that manufactured construction, mining, and industrial machinery and equipment, before returning to Pensher Skytech to take up a senior role with his new-found knowledge and experience.

 

James has worked on many of Pensher Skytech’s high-profile projects including Heathrow Terminal 5, Kabul Embassies, Project Afghanistan, Scotland Yard, and has been involved in fitting projects in Denmark, Ireland, and Germany.

James has been heavily involved in the research and development of projects where his experience and expertise have been invaluable.

Fully coded welder to ISO 9606 and EN287

Qualified in MIG and TIG on stainless steel, aluminium, and carbon steel.

Steve-Wright-Installer-Pensher-Skytech

Stephen Wright
Supervisor/Installer

Stephen is responsible for the assembly and installation of our products. Stephen manages a team of fitters and installation engineers, who ensures our doors and windows are correctly manufactured, and are installed to the customer’s satisfaction.

Stephen’s duties are two-fold, he is responsible for the assembly process on Pensher Skytech projects, ensuring all products are returned back from our sub con powder coaters and then all assembly works are completed, which can include ironmongery future fitting etc. in time for the agreed site start date.

Stephen then oversees a qualified on-site installation team, where he is responsible for ensuring all products are installed as per programme deadline and to the high standards Pensher Skytech set. Once installation is complete and approved, Stephen has the project signed off by the client.

With over 14 years’ experience in the door, window and curtain wall industry, Stephen has progressed from an apprentice installer to being a site supervisor. Stephen has gained vast experience of different sites ranging from petrochemical sites all over the UK to counter-terror sites like Parliament Estates. Stephen has also worked on sites overseas namely Georgia and Turkey.
