Pensher Skytech have designed and manufactured a range of watertight hatches suitable for easy access in areas where there is a potential risk of flooding. The hatches were originally developed to enable access to watertight compartments in ships, boats or marine environments such as containers, offshore/marine structures and renewable energy projects (including offshore wind). There is an increase in demand for watertight and flood defence hatches for alternative environments, such as electrical substations, commercial properties, and areas that are at risk of flooding.
The watertight hatches are manufactured to ensure that the heavy-duty gasket on the hatch panel is compressed against the ‘knife’ edge of the frame, ensuring maximum water-resistance against significant volumes of water. The hatches are constructed from steel, and using our in-house testing facility, can withstand water up to a pressure of 2.5 bar if necessary. We can also finish the watertight hatches in a NACE coating, proving a corrosion-resistant paint finish to ensure they last longer and maintain an aesthetically pleasing finish.
Pensher Skytech’s watertight and flood defence hatches can be fitted with a variety of operational features, depending on the environment and needs.
For easy access hatches, we can provide a central operation, which provides a safe and quick escape route from any compartment. The central operation hand wheel offers watertight integrity against a head of water applied from either side. The progressive closing actions through the turning of the hand wheel, combined with an efficient, fully adjustable clamping mechanism ensures a water-resistant seal with minimum effort.
Alternatively, clip handles can be fitted, which provides a watertight solution, which is operable from both sides via independent clip handles and can be supplied with a counterbalance arrangement to assist opening and closing.
There are other types of access operations for the watertight hatches that we can include on the design, which may be suitable to particular environments.
Pensher Skytech have experience in providing watertight hatches with toggle clamps. This provides a watertight hatch, which is only operable from above only via a series of toggle clamps.
A flush hatch operation can provide watertight protection to any compartment whilst maintaining a flush deck. This may be required in areas where there is traffic or passenger movement. The watertight flush hatch is operational from above via a portable key and from below with independent clip type handles.
Pensher Skytech’s watertight and flood defence hatches are not only suitable for marine environments, but any area requiring protection from the risk of flooding or high volumes of water. These typically include:
