The end of last year has seen the completion of blast and fire protection on two of the UK’s six gas terminals. Blast and fire resistant windows and doors are amongst the specialist products which are designed manufactured and installed by Pensher Skytech.
The CATS Terminal at Seal Sands near Teesside sees the reception and processing of Natural Gas from a 250 mile subsea pipeline in the North Sea. The control buildings form the critical infrastructure to the operation, and the time came for the buildings to be strengthened and made extra safe. The terminal has an operational reliability rating in excess of 99%, as well as an excellent safety and environmental record.
The project at Bacton Terminal in Norfolk was part of the updating of the plant which will increase the amount of gas processed by 16% securing its future for years to come. The plant already provides around a third of the UK’s gas energy.
Blast and fire doors and windows are critical for the protection of lives on both of these sites. Design and manufacturing expertise is backed by evidence in the form of structural blast calculations and from actual blast testing. Special materials are used to prevent radiated heat from a potential explosion or fireball from affecting staff in the buildings.
