Even before Brexit and the current fears of losing trade with the single market, Pensher Skytech was seeking to secure blast projects outside of the European Union. The number of blast projects has been increasing throughout the world, meaning a higher demand internationally.

These last two years has particularly seen a rise of projects needing blast protection in Turkey.  The country has invested heavily in the development of its oil and gas production and supply. The emerging economy of Turkey has led to a need for specialist products to help support the booming industry. Whilst the quality of manufacturing in Turkey is high, there is a need for technical expertise that companies in the UK can offer.

‘Refining petrochemicals is a dangerous business and there is always the risk of an explosion. It is of the utmost importance to protect staff from this risk. Blast resistant doors, windows, screens, and curtain walling are essential in offering full protection in these dangerous environments’, says Pensher Skytech’s Technical Manager, Derek Quinn.

Pensher Skytech has worked on four separate projects with Tupras – Turkey’s leading petrochemical processing company.

At the Tupras site near Korfez, an impressive control building has been built in close proximity to the processing facility. The eco-friendly building is constructed from white stone. It emerges beautifully from the landscape and its modern design contrasts the industrial towers surrounding it. The Italian architect who designed the building was keen to use as much natural light as possible, whilst not compromising on safety.

Pensher Skytech adhered to this request and designed slimline stainless steel doors and windows. Blast resistant doors and windows were supplied for the control centre. Several elongated, slim windows were installed into the façade. This provided a significant amount of natural light throughout the day but didn’t comprise its blast integrity.

Blast resistant roof lights were also installed onto the grass roof. It was important that the windows blended with the modern design of the building, whilst also providing natural light onto the control centre below.

Pensher Skytech went on to supply doors for other Tupras sites including those at Aliaga and Kirikkale. We thoroughly enjoy working with international companies and are eager to continue doing so.
